PRESCHOOL GOALS

 

SOCIAL STUDIES

By the end of preschool the children:

          will be able to understand that they live in a home that is part of a larger community

          will be able to recite the Pledge of Allegiance

          will be able to find where he/she lives on a map of the United States

          will develop an understanding of and appreciation for our individual differences and multicultural heritages

 

LANGUAGE ARTS

By the end of preschool the children:

          will be able to verbally express personal experiences and ideas

          will be able to listen to a storybook

          will be able to print their first name

          will be able to recognize their first name visually

 

MATHEMATICS

By the end of preschool the children:

          will be able to count to eight

          will be able to recognize numerals zero to eight

          will be able to identify the four basic shapes (circle, square, triangle, rectangle)

          will be able to recognize and complete AB, ABBA, AABB patterns

          will be able to complete simple sequencing tasks

 

SCIENCE

By the end of preschool the children:

          will have developed basic logical reasoning skills

          will have developed the ability to hypothesize

          will have actively participated in a variety of science experiments

 

RELIGION

By the end of preschool the children:

          will be able to make the sign of the cross and recite a simple prayer

          will have developed an awareness of basic Christian beliefs

          will have developed an awareness of God’s love for them

 

FINE ARTS

By the end of preschool the children:

MUSIC

          will be able to sing simple songs

          will be able to repeat simple rhythm patterns

          will be able to repeat simple tonal patterns

          will be able to play an instrument (rhythm sticks, egg shakers, sand blocks, bells, glockenspiel)

ART

          will have used a variety of mediums (markers, crayons, watercolor paints, tempera paints, play dough, clay, silly putty)

          will have actively participated in basic tracing, cutting, and gluing techniques

TECHNOLOGY

By the end of preschool the children:

          will have had the opportunity to work with a computer keyboard

          will know the vocabulary terms monitor, keyboard, and mouse

 

           

KINDERGARTEN GOALS

 

 

SOCIAL STUDIES

By the end of kindergarten the St. Peter student will:

          learn the Pledge of Allegiance

          know the responsibilities of students within the family and school environment

          be aware of maps and globes

          will develop an understanding of and appreciation for our individual differences and multi cultural heritages

Thematic units are taught throughout the year providing the impetus for learning in all areas of the kindergarten curriculum

           

LANGUAGE ARTS

By the end of kindergarten the St. Peter student will:

          identify consonant sounds and letters

          identify initial word sound

          identify basic color, number and common sight words

          practice writing using inventive spelling

            understand that written word represents spoken word

          practice left to right progression

          handle books correctly

 

MATHEMATICS

By the end of kindergarten the St. Peter student will:

          be able to count to 100

          be able to sequence, order, and compare numbers 1 - 20

          be able to tell time to the hour

          be able to make and complete simple bar graphs

          be able to identify pennies, nickels, dimes; match money with prices and determine amount of change

          be able to work with simple addition and subtraction facts

          be able to understand equal parts, 1 / 2, 1 / 4, 1 / 3

 

SCIENCE

By the end of kindergarten the St. Peter student will:

          had exposure to plant and plant seeds

          studied the life cycle of a butterfly

            discussed conservation, endangered species, recycling and reusing

            explored ocean life

          studied and recorded daily weather observations

            discussed and identified the changing seasons

            explored the five senses

            discussed appropriate dental health practices

RELIGION

By the end of kindergarten the St. Peter student will:

          know that Jesus comes from God’s love and that He shares God’s love with us as a caring friend and teacher

          know that God’s love created the universe and everything in it

          know that God’s love makes me who I am with my special talents and abilities and to identify my many feelings

          discover the many holidays we celebrate our love for God
